A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon cross surmounted by the staff and serpents of a silver caduceus charged above center with a white enamel square, one point up, having a yellow enamel disk at the center, and all above and between the sides of a red scroll inscribed "SERVICE ABOVE ALL ELSE" in silver letters.
The mission of the unit is symbolized by the maroon and white Greek cross with the staff and serpents of the caduceus. The white diamond shape and the yellow disk allude to the traditional materials associated with dental care. Also, gold, indicative of excellence, represents high standards of professionalism of the U.S. Army Dental Activity. The diamond shape refers to a fort, an allusion to Fort McClellan, home of the organization.
